We recommend three locations in Costa Rica.
Two peninsulas, Nicoya and Osa, provide the best ocean and jungle experiences. Because Costa Rica is the quintessential family vacation, we recommend villas with pools and your own cook, driver, and guides. This provides for true relaxation and maximum enjoyment, although we often arrange hotels for couples traveling alone.

We also recommend Alajuela for its proximity to many amazing destinations in the central valley.

The Nicoya Peninsula
The Nicoya peninsula is home to the picturesque beaches of Playa Grande, surf camps, tide pools teaming with life, leatherback turtles, wildlife refuges, national parks including a marine park, and an active volcano.

Playa Grande, one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, is central to many additional natural treasures.
You can call home an exotic villa steps from the Pacific Ocean with a private ocean panorama, its own pool and staff, and first rate amenities. Want to see this area from home? Watch Endless Summer II filmed in 1994 between Playa Grande and Tamarindo.

Alajuela
Alajuela is known as the “City of Mangos” (a natural for Mango Steve). It’s a comfortable distance from the chaos of San José, but close enough for amazing day trips in and around the capital.

We’ll arrange for you to visit a wildlife conservation park, macaw center and butterfly farm, meet 300 exotic snakes, tour the Mercado Central, take coffee tours, visit waterfall gardens, summit the cordillera, or ride a rainforest tram. You’ll stay at a family run resort and spa in Alajuela.

The Scarlet Macaw is one of Costa Rica's most vibrant birds, usually seen alone, or in pairs, flying over the forest canopy.

The Osa Peninsula

During the day, the nocturnal Red Eyed Tree Frog uses its suction-cup toes to attach to the undersides of leaves.
The Osa Peninsula is home to Costa Rica's most pristine jungle, growing to the edge of incredibly remote beaches.

Where the Osa's jungle meets ocean you'll find pristine and remote beaches.
Access to your private villa is by 4wd. This home is located between two high end resorts; you are isolated within reach of supreme luxury. Here you will live amidst the clamor of jungle animals, go gold panning in jungle rivers, take a canopy tour in the rainforest, ride horses, scuba with devil rays or hike in national forests.

A Howler Monkey calmly watches from a high perch in the Osa jungle. The Howler is one of four monkey species you can expect to see in Osa.
We can introduce you to wildlife and marine biologists and ecologists working on the Osa. You can explore pre-Columbian granite spheres, visit nearby yoga facilities or advance your surf skills with a private surf guide. The Osa is home to an active expatriate community; check out Women of the Osa for a glimpse of their activities.
Overlooking San José
On your way home you’ll layover at a boutique hotel on a bluff overlooking San José and the central valley. People still talk about this place decades after they leave. The owners are equestrian aficionados so bring your riding gear; their private stables and horses can be arranged for your exploration.
Otherwise, a staff naturalist can take you hiking and birding in the area’s national parks, cloud forests, biological rain forest reserves, or botanical gardens.
Nearby there are coffee farms to visit and rivers to raft. If you’d rather relax, the hotel is home to a spa and some of the finest cuisine in Costa Rica. |
